About the Author
In addition to his work in Kashmir, Wajahat Habibullah served as India s minister of education, secretary of consumer affairs, and secretary of the ministry of Panchayati Raj. He was also director, Shastri National Academy, and secretary, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. He is currently chief information commissioner of India. A senior fellow at the United States Institute of Peace in 2003 04, Habibullah received the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence in Secularism and the Gold Medal for Distinguished Service, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Although, in terms of the possible ways forward to achieve that ever elusive peace, it does provide some food for thought.From his vantage point, Mr Habibullah has been able to shed some light on various intriguing events that unfolded on the Kashmir stage during the height of militancy and interestingly unravels a mystery or two.The alleged killing of Dr. Abdul Ahad Guru orchestrated by the state police is a bolt out of the blue. A must read for all those who crave a comprehensive understanding of the Kashmir issue.

I may continue this review in time but, for now, an excellent (first purchase) book on Kirkeby. The intro is written by Achim Berchardt-Hume, (former curator at Tate Modern & chief curator at Whitechapel Gallery - at publishing in 2009). Wordy but enjoyable read on Kirk's early career, experience and influence as geologist, philosophical views, themes, 'intuition/sensation over knowledge/rational', and so on. Mainly painting, some sculpture is included, but not much discussion on his 'films'.

Of MOST interest: A small selection of Kirkeby's own writings are included on: his early career, Gauguin, Rodin, and "NeoGothic Space". Evidently he's long been a prolific writer/thinker (on painting/art/existence) which is something often as valuable as the art itself (b/c you have it from the horse's mouth). Illuminating, all.

Very neat book and overall Good

I'm truly falling in love with the Rules on Music Conducting and baton technique. This is the stuff rite here. Overall I gotta say big up to Max Rudolf for a fantastic job. He deseves the Credit. Great tips on the do's and dont's of Conducting. Brock Elherhan's version on that Subject was well done and well recommended as a Must-Have. I think people today should know what and is that conducting and using batons being used in symphony orchestras, choruses, classes, workshop, all of the around. This book will waive thru my success in the Music Area and mostly used to practice. This is like Homework.

Alice Medrich is the winner of five James Beard Foundation Awards, most recently Best Baking & Dessert Book of the Year for her tenth cookbook, Flavor Flours (Artisan Books, November 2014). She received her formal training at the prestigious �cole Len�tre in France and is widely credited with popularizing chocolate truffles in America. Medrich writes Food52’s Rogue Baking Tips column and teaches online baking courses at�Craftsy.com. She lives in Berkeley, California.

Quite honestly, it deserves 1 star

If you love Alice (as I do) you'll have probably have a hard forgiving her for this one. Although the title is "Chocolate Holidays : Unforgettable Desserts for Every Season" this book (as mentioned in the Editorial Reviews above) is actually "A Year in Chocolate : Four Seasons of Unforgettable Desserts" in paperback form (the printing info states, "This book first appeared in hardcover as A Year in Chocolate : Four Seasons of Unforgettable Desserts"). If Alice was going to bless her fans with a reprint surely "Cocolat" would be the steller choice (esp. since it's been going for $100+ for very good copies on auction sites and third party reselling) but instead we're given a retitled book that (see reviews) isn't her signature work.

I have both "Chocolate Holidays" and "A Year in Chocolate" and the main difference is that Alice dropped her editor and managing editor from the Acknowledgements :-) The number of pages hasn't changed (a good thing for the editor: the references still work :-) The "new" book claims to have "an extended section on ingredients, equipment, and decorative touches and detailed notes on how to customize the recipes to use the chocolate of your choice"... hmmm, let's see. Hey! "microplane" is now spelled "Microplane"! And the listings for Pastry Tips and Pastry Brushes have been flipped! Pastry Brushes goes first now!!

The only added feature (the aforementioned "detailed notes on how to customize the recipes to use the chocolate of your choice") is the "Chocolate Note" that appears on some (not all) of the recipies. Calling this feature "detailed" is a bit of a stretch, especially since many of these Notes consist primarily of "You can use any domestic bittersweet or semisweet chocolate that does not have a percentage on the label, or any boutique or imported brand marked 50 to 72 percent." Wow. Thanks. *Cough*

I love ya, Alice, but you could have done yourself (and your fans) a greater service by publishing this tome under its true title ("'A Year in Chocolate : Four Seasons of Unforgettable Desserts' Second edition, featuring a few cosmetic tweaks but the same pics") or, even better yet, given yourself full justice and treating us to another edition of "Cocolat: Extraordinary Chocolate Desserts" (a book that could be reissued without revision and still be worth rebuying 8-)

This cookbook is a fun, neat cookbook - especially for those looking for recipes to bake for Jewish holidays. However, this book is certainly not for the amateur baker. Even if you are a chocoholic, like me, don't buy this book as your first cookbook.

I have yet to make all of the recipes in this book, but the ones I have tried have been excellent. The detailed instructions make it almost impossible to mess up, and you end up with beautiful and delicious desserts. I bake a lot, but the recipe for chocolate cake in this book made the best cake that I've ever made (or eaten). The recipes can be a little time consuming, but they are worth the effort.

About the Author
"Mary Margaret Kerr" received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Duke University and her doctorate from The American University in Washington, DC. Trained in special education and developmental psychology, Dr. Kerr has devoted her career to working with troubled children and adolescents and to teaching those who help them. The author of six textbooks and many articles, she has taught in special education and alternative education classrooms and continues to consult with school districts across the country. A former faculty member at Vanderbilt University, Dr. Kerr joined the faculty of the School of Medicine and the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh in 1980.

In 1989, Dr. Kerr joined the Pittsburgh City Schools as Director of Pupil Services, where she administered services such as guidance, counseling, social work, drug-free schools, alternative education, health services, school security, and discipline. In 1994, she returned to her faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh, where she is Educational Director and Associate Professor of Child Psychiatry and Education. She also directs outreach services for the University's youth suicide and violence prevention center, STAR-Center. This center provides crisis response services, training, and consultation to school districts and communities across Pennsylvania.

In 1996 Dr. Kerr was appointed by the United States Court for the Central District of California as a Consent Decree Administrator for Los Angeles Unified School District. In this capacity, Dr. Kerr works with educators and parents to improve services for 81,000 students with disabilities.

When Dr. Kerr is not at work in Pittsburgh orLos Angeles, she is at home with her husband Bruce and their two children.

"C. Michael Nelson" began his special education career as a teacher of adolescents with learning and behavior disorders. After earning a master's degree in school psychology, he worked as a child psychologist at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He received his Ed.D. from the University of Kansas in 1969 and took a position with the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Kentucky, where he currently is a full professor and coordinates the graduate Personnel Preparation Program for Teachers of Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities. Dr. Nelson has authored or edited over 100 professional publications, including books, textbook chapters, articles in referred journals, and multimedia instructional packages. He has prepared teachers of children and youth with behavior disorders at the pre- and in-service levels and has served as principal investigator on a number of research and personnel preparation grants. He has served as president of the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders. Currently, he is involved in two national centers that promote research and best practices for students with or at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders: the Center for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support, and the Center for Education, Disability, and Juvenile Justice. He also is associated with the Kentucky Center for School Safety.

disorganized disaster

It is a disorganized disaster.... a mess.
For example; in chapter 4, Assessment Based Planning (actually assessment based intervention planning) step 6 is;
Write Long term and Short term intervention Objectives.

The very first sentence under this heading states:

" Although we list this as the last step, the beginning point of intervention, whether it consists of skill instruction or behavior management, is to write behavioral objectives that describe the behavioral outcome to be achieved following interventions. "

This text is full of statements in the wrong place as they jar you out of your reading mode and make you say,"Wait, what?" Statements that seem to be added as afterthoughts. Statements that more fully explain information in preceding chapters and statements that give a new term but no definition or explanation other than to let us know we will learn more about them in subsequent chapters.

The text is written in such a way that the entire damn thing must be read very closely and more than once, in order to understand the authors point. Approximation,expectation, goal, outcome and objective are all used interchangeably. There are no chapter key terms listing and the glossary in the back does not reference page numbers.

If I didn't know better, I would surmise that the author used every instructional strategy that exists in writing her text but for Direct Instruction - as in - key term, definition, example, another key term, definition, example....how hard is that?
