Not a fan. Would not recommend. Very disappointed. Why you ask? Well, let me tell you...#1) there is no real interaction between Cal & Michelle other than sex. Oh, yeah & fighting. Sex & fighting are pretty much the only times they are together & not much conversation is going on. Nothing productive anyway. #2) He cheats. Shagging a club whore AFTER you've slept with the heroine does not lead to a forever kind of love in my book. Once a cheater, always a cheater, end of story. #3) she betrays him by calling DCFS on him. Work that sh** out in private. Don't drag others into it, especially DCFS. The author obviously did not do her research on that particular agency because nothing she wrote about them is accurate. To sum up, they both lack the desired qualities that I look for in a good, sorry asking for great is just too much for this author not to mention this couple, romance couple. Awful read. If it hadn't been free with Kindle Unlimited, I'd ask for my money back.

Sex at all the wrong times.

Number one, condoms? There's just a small suggestion. That really kind of grossed me out on more than one occasion. Really I found myself more interested in the MC war background story. The romance was really less than an afterthought and the sex just blah because basically I could keep up with it. Some positions sounded contortionist worthy. Then the whole lack of condoms with anyone he sleep Sith, even the less than clean club girls who were basically described as walking Petri dishes for STDs, yeah wasn't interested in those pages. Found myself needing a shower after the first one, then the second one...just yuck.

I was ok

First let me start off by saying it was a good read. I just couldn't follow the storyline too well it started off with her saying that her mother was killed then it started saying her parents live in Florida I don't give me wrong some stories get twisted about a lot. But I just couldn't follow it and then it ended so abruptly without any conclusionas to what happened in between time they just said he did this and he did that and she was a member I mean come on now but you be the judge and read it for yourself because maybe I'm wrong maybe your opinion means more than mine

Second Best Optimal

'Mathematical Methods' is the best math econ text you can buy. It does a far better job of explaining math modeling than Takayama or Simone and Blume. It reads better than Chiang. Its' broad coverage of techniques should be enough to satisfy most any instructor.
It starts off by running through some important basics- set theory, Venn diagrams, proofs. It then works up to calculus and optimization. It could use some more game theory, and should ditch the section on ISLM. The main strength of this book is that, unlike other math econ texts, one can read and understand it without prior knowledge of advanced mathmatics.
Of course, nobody really needs to learn all, or even most of, the math in this book. To get credentails as an economist, students must jump through many a mathematical hoop. This book helps students through this better than any of the alternatives. It has a reasonable paperback price too. Do not expect to have much fun reading 'Mathematical Methods'. Just bear in mind that there are far worse books to use in studying math econ.

A good overview

Mathematical economics has been around for about 175 years, although as a discipline it has only been recognized for about five decades. Professional economists have had various levels of confidence in its validity and applicability, and mathematical economists have been criticized for the esoteric nature of the mathematics they deploy and some have been ostracized from academic departments for this very reason. This book emphasizes the mathematical tools, these being primarily the theory of optimization and dynamical systems, but the author does find time to discuss applications. Some of these could be classified as "classical" applications, but some are very contemporary in their scope and intersect the work done in financial engineering.

Part 1 of the book introduces the reader to the necessary background in real analysis, topology, differential calculus, and linear algebra. All of this mathematics is straightforward and can be found in many books.

In chapter 5, the author considers static economic models, which are described by collections of parametrized systems of equations. The equations are dependent on parameters describing the environment and `endogenous' variables. The goal is to find the values of the endogenous variables at equilibrium, and to find out if the equilibrium solutions are unique. In addition, it is interest to find out how the solution set changes when the parameters are changed. This is what the author calls `comparative statics'. Linear models are considered first, their analysis being amenable to the techniques of linear and multilinear algebra. The comparative statics for linear models is straightforward, with the shift in equilibrium as a parameter is change readily calculated. The comparative statics of nonlinear models involves the use of the implicit function theorem, and the author derives a formula for doing comparative statics in differentiable models. The discussion here, involving concepts such as transversality, critical points, regular values, and genericity, should be viewed as a warm-up to a more advanced treatment using differential topology.

The author studies static optimization in chapter 7, with the postulate of rationality assumed throughout. This allows the study of the behavior of economic agents to be reduced to a constrained optimization problem. The techniques of nonlinear programming are used to find solutions to the constrained optimization problem. Throughout this chapter one sees discussion of the ubiquitous `agent' who is embedded in a collection of possible environments, and is able to carry out a certain collection of actions.

The author finally gets to economic applications in chapter 8, wherein the author studies the behavior of a single agent under a set of restrictions imposed on it by its environment. This rather simplistic study is then generalized to the case of many interacting agents who are taken to be rational. The concept of `equilibrium', so entrenched in economic theory and economic modeling, makes its appearance here. In a condition of equilibrium, no agent has an incentive to change its behavior, and the actions of each individual are mutually compatible. Some of the usual concepts of equilibrium are discussed in the chapter, such as Walrasian equilibrium in exchange economies, and Nash equilibrium in game theory. The (subjective) preferences of consumers are modeled by binary relations and differentiable utility functions. The differentiability allows the techniques of chapter 7 to be used. The author asks the reader to work through some examples of `imperfect' competition at the end of the chapter.

After a straightforward review of dynamical systems in chapters 9 and 10, the author discusses applications of dynamical systems in chapter 11. He begins with a discussion of a dynamic IS-LM model, using assumptions on the evolution of the money supply, the formation of expectations, and price dynamics. This model consists of two first-order ordinary differential equations, and the author studies its fixed-point structure via a standard phase-space analysis. This analysis allows the author to study the effect of a change in parameters, such as change in the rate of money creation, i.e. the effects of a certain monetary policy. Also discussed are `perfect-foresight models', which address the difficult issue of boundary conditions in economic models based on dynamical systems. Two of these models are discussed, one is a stock price model based on the no-arbitrage principle from finance, and the other is a model of exchange-rate determination. The stock price model is the most interesting discussion in the book. It requires one to specify how expectations are formed, and, depending on how this is done, some very unexpected results occur. For example, if the agents have adaptive expectations, the author shows that the forecast error is predictable, and that agents who understand the structure of the model will have an incentive to deviate from the predicted behavior. This behavior on the part of the agents will invalidate the theory since the agents will have an incentive to compute the trajectory of prices, contrary to the assumption of the model. The author concludes that this is in direct conflict with the assumption that individuals are rational and maximize utility, i.e. that in a world without uncertainty, adaptive expectations are inconsistent with the assumption of rationality. The author avoids this problem by assuming that `perfect foresight' holds for the agents, i.e. the agents form expectations that are consistent with the structure of the model. He shows that the assumption of perfect foresight eliminates the inconsistency that was found in the adaptive expectations model. In the perfect foresight model, every agent uses the correct model to predict prices, and no agent has any incentive to act differently. The author then uses this model to study the response of share prices to a change in the tax rate on dividends. The rest of the chapter discusses neoclassical growth models and the software language Mathematica is introduced as a tool for solving nonlinear differential equations.

I did not read the last two chapters of the book, which cover dynamic optimization and its applications, and so I will omit their review.

Potentially a good book but.......

This book had so much potential but it really needed an editor. There were so many spelling & punctuation errors, misuse of words & incomplete sentences that it sounded like a 14-year-old wrote it. The writing style was choppy & all over the place. It was very hard to follow because of this. I'm being generous by giving it 2 stars.

Fun book!

I purchased this book for my 20 mo son. He is obsessed with the Cars characters and loves sound books. This book has several sound buttons (as seen on front) that are great and he really loves the music buttons. He has been inseparable with this book since we received it. The only issue I have is with the spine/binding of the upper book portion. The book pages are thick cardboard which is great for his age but the binding does not support much page turning before it gave way. He loves the book so much that I didn't want to take it away to return it. I just used some heavy duty clear packing tape and reinforced each page and the outter binding. It is much sturdier now and hasn't come apart again.
Overall, very pleased with the book and would recommend.

About the Author

Dev Raheja, MS, CSP, has been an international risk management and quality assurance consultant in the healthcare, medical device, and aerospace industries for more than 25 years. He applies evidence-based safety techniques from a variety of industries to healthcare.

He is a trainer, and author of the books Safer Hospital Care, Assurance Technologies Principles and Practices, and Design for Reliability. He shows clients how to create elegant solutions using creativity and innovation. Being a true international consultant, he has conducted training in several countries including Sweden, Australia, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Taiwan, South Africa, Finland, and Brazil. He helped a major company in the Midwestern United States avoid going out of business and become a world leader by eliminating safety mishaps.

Prior to becoming a consultant in 1982, he worked at GE Healthcare as supervisor of quality assurance and manager of manufacturing, and at Booz-Allen & Hamilton as a risk management consultant for the nuclear and mass transportation industry.

Raheja served as adjunct professor at the University of Maryland for five years in its PhD program in reliability engineering, and is currently an adjunct professor at Florida Tech for its BBA degree in healthcare management. He is associate editor for healthcare safety for the Journal of System Safety, and teaches webinars on medical device safety and reliability.

He has received several industry awards including the Scientific Achievement Award and Educator-of-the-Year Award from the System Safety Society and the Austin Bonis Reliability Education Award from the American Society for Quality.

He served as part of the first group of examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and served for 15 years on the board of directors of the Annual Reliability and Maintainability Conference sponsored by ten engineering societies. Currently he is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), the American Society of Patient Safety Professionals, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Raheja majored in human factors engineering as a part of his master’s degree in industrial engineering, is a Certified Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and serves as the chairman of the Design for Reliability Committee of the IEEE.

A Must Read Account of Teamwork

I just finished this book and probably need a little more time to digest it all. However, I wanted to get this review out there in hopes it inspires just one person to buy the book. This is a true, gritty in the muck book about a MARSOC team that fought together, sacrificed together, grew together and died together. I have read almost every book published about the Afghan war and this book does the absolute best job of painting the picture of what life was like for SOF guys out in the armpit of hell(AFGHANISTAN). Lots of action as well, no clear political agenda (although at times I wanted to jump back in time and strangle some of the REMFs mentioned in the book for what they would not allow the operators to do). All around excellent read and I truly wish I could shake all of these guys hands. Thank you to all our Marines who fought, bled and died for us. Those who give thanks to God for you all everyday still exist out here and will never forget your sacrifice.

Outstanding follow up to Level Zero Heroes. Michael Golembesky has done it again with his thrilling, honest, and real narrative about the actions of the men of MSOT 8222. This is a harrowing story of the difficult and complex situation of being a small SOF team in a ridiculous rules-based combat zone and how they overcame it. It's clear to me that these men are the best there is and have set a bar for being such a new member of the special operations community. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in history, modern warfare, and the Marine Corps. Great read!
