Absolute MUST BUY for ALL general and trauma surgeons!!! Great for surgical residents as well

I have been looking for a book like this for years Many of the major trauma operations are difficult to get a grasp on if you haven't actually watched them before, or scrubbed on those type of cases. Having trained in a program that did not see much trauma, I saw almost none of the catastrophic trauma scenarios we all have nightmares about. We have read about them, enough to recite the steps for the orals boards, but we know actually performing the operation in the middle of the night, by yourself, is a whole different story. In addition, these types heroic procedures are often done with little or no advanced notice, so it is nearly impossible to get a quality video recording for teaching purposes.
This book shows many of these procedures in great detail, with high quality photos of perfused and ventilated cadavers. I can't imaging the amount of work that went into performing these meticulous dissections, AND having the cadavers both ventilated and perfused. I commend Dr. Demetriades and his team on a tremendous job filling a void in surgical textbooks that has existed for years. I have never come across another book like it. The introduction by Dr. Mattox says it all!
It has given me another level of insight on how to perform these trauma operations if and when the days comes when I am confronted with a disaster trauma patient in need of an emergent operation. It is without question the best trauma surgical atlas I have ever read, and can't remember being more satisfied with a surgical textbook purchase in my career.

Highly readable and enjoyable.Pictures and illustrations are clear and operative steps are simplified.The use of fresh, perfused and ventilated human cadavers makes this atlas unique.Unique Step by step guide for the surgeon,through the entire procedure,from incision to closure.Tips and pitfalls are highlighted.Every trauma surgeon should own a copy of this book.
