Dr. Mittal’s research interests include organic-inorganic nanocomposites, novel filler surface modifications, thermal stability enhancements, and polymer latexes with functionalized surfaces.

Exceptional piece of work

Some books are created in a way so that the learning experience can flow smoothly and without frustration. This is that book. Any tax accounting book can be frustrating and overly technical in its explanation of the rationale and formulation of the tax code, however, this book manages to capture the essence of the tax code without presenting chapter questions or problems that are too daunting or loosely worded for readers. In other words, I highly recommend this book for the avid learner and would do so in future years if it wasn't for the fact that this book will be outdated by next year.

The book is well written and very informative, even for the novice tax preparer. Make sure to request the code to log onto the companion Web site. The Website and the book must be used together to get a full understanding of the materials presented in the course. If you purchased a used book, the publisher will email a free code to access the Web site.

US taxation

This is a good text book on taxation. Nice font and hard cover - However it works best if you are used to referring to the sections of the US tax code. What could make it work better would be to have more diagrams to illustrate the "flow chartish way" of the written material of this book to illustrate the key points in each chapter. To reiterate , the book seems to be written in a flow chart manner.. would be good to take it a step furthur and have some nice diagrams put in. The practical examples are a no frill type , exact and to the point which is good in a distracting subject like taxation where one topic overlaps and extends to another chapter in the book. They have managed to box it up nicely into compartments which makes it easy for the student to integrate the concepts in his mind, rathar than have someone not only "cook the dish" for you but also "spoon feed it to you". It stops short of spoon feeding which is good thing because you have to have your own take on a particular topic. It helps you in grounding you to the basics of taxation, in my opinion.
However it does not list where to find answers to questions at the back of the book, which is very very important especially for a tax book.

Update to my review:
Currently for tax year 2008 sales tax is an option as an itemized deduction - under section 164 of the Tax code , which was extended thru the tax years 2009 -source [...] page 1 look under the head " State and Local general sales taxes" however Chapter 8 where this topic is covered page 8-7 para 8101 point 4
" State and local general sales taxes ( for tax years beginning before 2008)" kind of leaves you with unclear definition of applicability....

fantastic!

If you are interested in this subject, you need this book. It is more than well-illustrated - there are 379 pictures, many in color, mostly of art from the period (rather than extant pieces). The text is dense with information but written in understandable English, rather than academic prose. Both pictures and text cover all kinds of obscure things never found elsewhere. It is totally worth the price - my copy is definitely well-used!

Pat Williams is the co-founder and senior vice president of the NBA’s Orlando Magic. He is also a popular motivational speaker averaging over 150 appearances a year. Williams spent 50 years in professional baseball and basketball as a player and executive. He served as general manager of the 1983 world champion Philadelphia 76ers and managed both the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks. Williams is the author of over 75 books. He and his wife, Ruth, are the parents of 19 children, including 14 adopted from four nations. I just finished this great book on my hero Vince Lombardi and highly recommend it. The history is priceless and the leadership principals are timeless. Enjoy the history of one of the greatest coaches of all time and learn the valuable principals he used that you can use today.

I knew very little about coach, I must say I took him as very brash, tough, and rugged to the point that he was brawny beyond anything I could fathom. I love football, I love leadership--so I knew this book would be a big hit with me. I must say as well, the author never fails to bring to fruition the leadership qualities in all people through his books. If you don't understand coach, read this book. If you do understand coach, read all the insights the author has displayed through interviewing; old players, secretaries, wives and young men and women he coached in high school. Plus many, many more. The 7 sides of leadership in this novel displays what it takes to lead in all occupations. Mr. Lombardi was a football coach. However, he was a teacher first when really looking into what made him successful. You will learn about wisdom, confidence, intuition, paying your dues, competitiveness, mental toughness and of course what it means to give back to others. Another great book by the author--well done and I applaud him on his homework and for his ability to bring to the surface what makes people legendary--LEADERSHIP.

It's Never too Late to Learn to Lead

When Pat Williams gave me a copy of his book, Vince Lombardi on Leadership, I decided to read it for leisurely enjoyment. I decided that at the age of 78, there was little profit I could derive from anybody’s book on leadership, even the great Lombardi.

I was wrong.

As I read, I began to take notes and do a lot of underlining. The principles by which Lombardi lived are worthy of emulation, even for someone in the latter phases of life.

Lombardi had an amazing ability to analyze the personalities of his players and to coach and teach each one individually.

Pat Williams, an NBA executive who has authored dozens of books, interviewed many of Lombardi’s former players, and they had one thing in common: Fond memories of a coach whom they loved even though he was a relentless disciplinarian.

There are life lessons I am striving to learn from Vince Lombardi, even though he died at an age more than 20 years younger than I am now.

I recommend this book for anyone at any age who wants to get the most out of the rest of his or her life.

And, by the way, Packer fans should love Williams’ insights into one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history.

Alonzo Kelly holds undergraduate degrees in aerospace engineering and computer science, and both undergraduate and graduate degrees in robotics. Dr Kelly worked in the aerospace industry for ten years before returning to academia. Very good 'all-in-one' mobile robotics book

The book covers all relevant (high-level) aspects of (wheeled) mobile robotics. It follows a very thorough approach with a focus on the underlying math. It should be especially suitable for those searching for a deep insight and sound base to work in the field of robotics. I consider 'Mobile Robotics' a very good book for readers with some mathematical background. Furthermore, some intrinsic motivation may be required, since the book targets a very steep learning curve.
I will use it as textbook for my computer science graduate class on robotics, but will try to smoothen some of the 'hard edges'.

Not an effective survey

Bought this to have a visual survey of developments in 21st century art photography. This book wants to be it, but isnt. Grouped in 5 categories: Something borrowed, ie appropriation, Layers of reality ie compositing, All the world is stage, ie arrangements, Hand and eye, ie manipulation of the print, and Post-Photojournalism. These cover the major areas of new approaches to photography, and each section has at least one really creative example, and at least two really weak ones. The selection quality of the examples is weak at best. And famous practitioners that were the innovators in each area are not included or even mentioned. The book intros to each section doe not give an overview of the approach but rather trivial details of the work of the particular artists. Disappointed that the book doesnt fulfill the survey function it intends.

Good textbook despite numerous grammatical errors
